The quality of air we breathe is obviously very important to our health and well being.

A recent study by Harvard University showed that over 8 million people died from the negative health impacts of fossil fuel pollution in 2018.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency's website, the six most common air pollutants are "particulate matter, ground-level ozone, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, and lead. Of the six pollutants, particle pollution and ground-level ozone are the most widespread health threats." Particle pollution is made up of tiny liquid or solid droplets in the air and come from both natural sources, like forest fires, and man-made sources, like cars. Ground-level ozone happens when the emissions from automobiles or industrial, power, and chemical plants, mix with sunlight.

Creating cleaner public transportation, converting to greener energy sources, incentivizing companies to reduce their pollution are just a few ways. For more information on how cities are improving air quality, take a look at Clean Air Fund.
