One Easy Way To Live Carbon Neutral

How can I live carbon neutral? Here's a simple answer...PLANT A TREE!!!

Let's do some quick math.

Go Tree Quotes reports that an average pine tree absorbs 0.13 US tons of carbon per day, which means 8 trees absorb 1.04 tons per day. The average American produces 16 tons of carbon each year, according to Nature.org. That's one of the highest rates in the world, as the global average is 4 tons.

By planting one pine tree, once the tree is mature, it will neutralize an individual's annual carbon output in 123 days (Equation: 16 tons / 0.13 tons per day ). That means in one year that single pine tree you planted would absorb more than 3x the amount of carbon you produced.

To do more, just plant more. Here's an example. If 8 pine trees absorb about 1 ton of carbon per day, by planting 8 trees, you would neutralize your yearly carbon output in only 16 days (Equation: 16 tons / 1 ton per day).

This year my family planted trees in North America through One Tree Planted. But there are many great organizations that plant trees, a few of which we listed with links in a previous blog, What Can We Do To Offset Deforestation?

Also, here's a carbon calculator that will show you how much carbon your entire household might create each year. Of course, it's also important for all of us to reduce our carbon output, use less, and create less waste, but we understand this can be difficult and take time. So as we work to reduce the carbon pollution we put into the air, let's start by planting trees that absorb it!
