Last week, my friends and I from the local chapter of Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots Club, held a campus cleanup. Bags in hand, gloves on, we roamed the high school, middle school, and elementary school campuses, playgrounds, and sports fields, picking up trash that was scattered around outside.

We found bottles, bottle caps, plastic lunch bags, juice boxes, straws, candy wrappers, chip bags, a few cigarette butts, and heaps of mostly small miscellaneous garbage that just didn't make it to the trash bin. We know lots of the litter was unintentional. Things blow away, or are dropped without realizing it. It happens. But our clean up was a reminder that all these small bits of trash really add up.
Fortunately, it was a beautiful day, blue sky and about 70 degrees, so the whole cleanup didn't seem like a chore at all. Instead, it felt good to be outside doing our small part. We encourage you to do the same - at school or in your neighborhood or at a park you love. Grab a friend and a family member or two. If we all pitch in and lend a hand, we're on our way to creating a cleaner, greener planet. Thank you for reading!
