Local and Global Issues and How To Make A Difference

While climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time, there are other critical issues that need our attention, too.

Let's be honest, most of us waste a lot of time on our phones. I'm 100% guilty of this myself. But it's easy to put your phone to good use. Instead of scrolling aimlessly through TikTok or Instagram, we could use that time to do something good for the world. To get you started, here’s a short list of causes and organizations that you can help today. (Of course, there are lots of other great organizations out there that you can find with a simple Google search.)

Places to donate to that don't cost much...literally, for the cost one lunch out you can make a meaningful contribution:

• Child hunger - Feeding America and Action Against Hunger

• Children with Illnesses - Make a Wish Foundation

• Ukrainian Refugee Aid - UNICEF

• Syrian Refugee Aid - International Rescue Committee

Volunteer:

Everyone should volunteer when they have time, not only because it helps those in need, but it also sets a great example for others:

• Local homeless shelter

• Local animal shelter

• Nearby Salvation Army

• Habitat for Humanity

• Help teach English to people who have relocated from other countries

• Local Big Brother-Big Sister or Buddy Program

• Community cleanups (if you don’t have one, grab some gloves and a trash bag and set off into your neighborhood. You'll most likely inspire others to join you!)
